If the symptoms of nasal blockage, sneezing, running nose are chronic , the turbinates enlarge causing further obstruction. Infrared coagulation can reduce the inflammation and congestion in the nose.
It is fast well tolerated by patients. Only a brief sensation of heat is felt by the patients .The infrared beam is directed to the turbinate to cause thermal necrosis of the tissues. There is no passage of electrical and the patient does not feel any discomfort. The procedure may be repeated after 4-6 weeks for persistent turbinate inflammation.
