Tinnitus (Ringing in the ears)
Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. It is a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a circulatory system disorder. Tinnitus can improve with treatment of the underlying cause. It can worsen with age Tinnitus doesn’t just impact hearing, but can render negative mental, cognitive, and physical consequences. The various hearing tests can evaluate the specific gaps in the patient’s hearing, as this often correlates to the nature and quality of their particular tinnitus and may inform different potential treatment options for tinnitus.
While there is currently no way to objectively test for tinnitus, there are several protocols to measure the patient’s subjective perception of tinnitus sound, pitch, and volume like sound matching , minimum masking level and loudness discomfort level .These tests provides an important baseline for subsequent tinnitus management therapies, which are often customized for each patient.
